Second Hand News

Well, I'm no part of The Fray, but I can now "save a life" theoretically. I'm CPR and First Aid certified. It is so nerve wracking knowing I might be using either one of them... phew! Either way, as I was watching everyone blowing up plastic bags and compressing what looked like portable bicycle pumps, I couldn't help but add How to Save a Life to the visual. Here is a link for the song if you don't already know it...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjVQ36NhbMk

My second point of business, my youngest niece turned 2 today! I can't wait to have kids of my own, but while I wait, my nieces and nephew are my everything!

My third... NO trip to Chicago. NO Record Store Day digging. NO Hockey Game. Possibly no trip to the river in Missouri either. (At least not on the dates I had planned.) =[ Go figure! I ended up with the exact opposite rotation from what I wanted. Which totally bums me out. How can the best holiday be such a waste?! Oh well, guess I'll stick to my dry spell as far as vinyl goes. =[

At least I always have my Rumours record to keep me company as I cry myself to sleep on the 16th! (Actually I have TWO of them)

I know there's nothing to say
Someone has taken my place
When times go bad
When times go rough
Won't you lay me down in tall grass
And let me do my stuff

I know I got nothin' on you
I know there's nothing to do
When times go bad
And you can't get enough
Won't you lay me down in the tall grass
And let me do my stuff

One thing I think you should know
I ain't gonna miss you when you go
Been down so long
I've been tossed around enough
Couldn't you just
Let me go down and do my stuff

I know you're hopin' to find
Someone who's gonna give you peace of mind
When times go bad
When times go rough
Won't you lay me down in tall grass
And let me do my stuff

I'm just second hand news
I'm just second hand news

A little info on the best record of all time... Rumours is such a sweet gem because of all the heartbreak the band and writers were going through at the time it was made. Fleetwood was having his own problems at home, the McVies were splitting and Stevie and Lindsey Buckingham were always at it. You want amazing lyrics? Grab a bottle of tension off the shelf of love and stir the pot! Break the hearts of five amazing lyricists and then give them a pen and some paper. Presto! You have an amazing album for any difficult relationship. (And let's face it, they're all difficult.) Either way, I love this album and I'm totally intrigued with the history of the making of it. Love sucks, but oooooh how it inspires!

A New Beginning

Kinda bummed that I didn't think to put CPR training on my bucket list. I used to know how to administer it but it has been quite a few years. Over a decade... yikes! But, tomorrow I'll be starting a training course for it. Woo hoo. I'm a dork, I'm excited over a CPR course. Lord, help me.

Stop This Heartbreak Overload

There is an over abundance of country duets like the following video. I would have thrown in some Johnny and June, but who doesn't know about there tense love now that "Walk the Line" has blown through the American cinemas? And they kinda did things in reverse when you think about it. Plus, they ended up being those epic sort of soulmates that found each other despite everything. Yeah, Notebook kinda love, I know! However, the following videos all share that wonderful ending every movie goer hates! You know the one, no definite answer but the 8 ball is whispering things like "reply hazy, try again," or "outlook not so good."

And the beat goes on...

Trisha Yearwood - This is Me You're Talking To
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjLc_b6utWE&feature=player_embedded

Faith Hill and Tim McGraw - Like We Never Loved At All

I put your picture away
I wonder where you've been
I cant look at you while I'm lyin next to him
---
I was headed to church. I was off to drink you away.

Sheryl Crow and Kid Rock (Yeah, they count...) Picture

And mm mmm mmMMendocino County Line with it's beautiful lyrics and video. Oh, the pairing of Lee Ann Womack (a personal favorite female vocalist) and the classic Willie Nelson is like good Whiskey. Sure, it might burn a bit, but it is a familiar burn that grows into a smooth appreciation. Mmm delicious.

And... this is totally becoming a music blog. Which wasn't my intention. In other news, the first day was good but a bunch of my exciting plans are now on hold. Time to practice optimism... which isn't my strong suit, but I'm gonna wear it anyway!

Bike and Build

I have little to say for this post. Will is a great guy and this is a great opportunity for him to do some good! So if you have an interest/the funds help him with his goal! Bike and Build sounds like a great project and I know he'd appreciate the help! =]

That is all.

and you can sing it

Tomorrow starts the new job. Hope my head clears up by then. I think this is a touching song.

I'm a loudmouth and a big talker

I love Sunday. It is my favorite day. Church, Postsecret, Football or Nascar, the peaceful easy feeling you get. It is a good day when it is a Sunday. (It usually is, anyway.) I'm feeling pretty reflective today on what a past I have. How much things have changed and all that I should be grateful for. So here goes a Sunday Sundae of emotion... These are all songs I've got from people in my past that I really enjoy. Lyrics are great because they'll never do you wrong and you'll let them down.

Everyone is looking for someone to blame
But you share my bed, you share my name
Well, go ahead and call the cops
You don't meet nice girls in coffee shops
She said baby, I still love you
Sometimes there's nothin left to do

...

Well, God bless your crooked little heart

Tom Waits - Hold On
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPnOEiehONQ

I'm not gonna lie
I'll not be a gentleman
Behind the boathouse
I'll show you my dark secret

I'm not gonna lie
I want you for mine
My blushing bride
My lover, be my lover, yeah...

Don't be afraid
I didn't mean to scare you
So help me, Jesus

I can promise you
You'll stay as beautiful
With dark hair
And soft skin...forever
Forever

Make up your mind
Make up your mind
And I'll promise you
I will treat you well

The Toadies - Possum Kingdom
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkwD5rQ-_d4
I don't know where we're going
but I know we've gone too far and
I hope it isn't showing
but i think i love you and
i can't believe you're leaving
just when i let you in and
when you had me believing
i could feel again

i could give a million reasons
why we should not be friends
our moods change like the seasons

my mood ends your mood begins and
you're a tease, you're a cockblocker,
you're a loudmouth bitch, and a big talker, but that's okay.
you'll grow up someday
Jay Brennan - Half-Boyfriend http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDNGtYFca4Q

Well I love my baby
like the finest wine
Stick with her until the end of time
Shes my sweet little thang
shes my pride and joy
Shes my sweet little baby
Im her little lover boy

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Pride and Joy

Well, that about covers things for today. I can't wait til' it gets warm enough out to till up some land! =]

Quarter for your thoughts

As is becoming a habit of mine, some lyrics for company.

Rilo Kiley - Go Ahead

if you want to hold on to the first girl that you meet
or if you want to settle down and plant roses at my feet
go ahead
go ahead
go ahead
i wish you would
go ahead

if you want to have your cake and eat it too
and if you want to have other people watch you while you eat it
go ahead
go ahead
go ahead
be my guest
go ahead

if you want better things
i want you to have them
if you want better things
then i want you to have them
Nikka Costa - Til' I get to You http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJk7s5RJFRo

My lover A was absolutely alright
But my lover B would bump my tunes in his ride
Then my lover C caught me in the cookie jar
'Cause my lover D was too delicious to deny

My lover E was extraordinary and my one regret
But my lover F was just too freaky to forget
My lover G was touch and go for a good while
But my lover H was proof that I haven't found you yet

It's just a matter of time till I get to you
No matter how many I gotta get through
It's just a matter of time till I get to you
Just a matter of time till I get to you

And I gotta say I was jonesin' for my lover J
But my jelly was too sweet for him
And jealousy got in the way
Let's just say my lover K was kicked to the curb
And my lovers LMNOP have all become a blurb

My lover Q was quite qualified
But my lover R was ready to rush me out of his life
My lover S was so busy spreading his seed
That I took to tearing it up with my lover T

It's just a matter of time till I get to you
No matter how many I gotta get through
It's just a matter of time till I get to you
Just a matter of time till I get to you

You make me feel like singing
Lalalalala
You make me feel like singing
Lalalalala
And I don't need no reason
Now that I got U in my life!

The Bird and The Bee - Fucking Boyfriend

When you laid down with me,
you took the other side.
When you laid down with me,
you never slept that night.

Are you working up to something?
But you give me almost nothing.
Keep me helpless up to something
on my knees.

Would you ever be my?
Would you be my fucking boyfriend?

...

I would be so winning, so absolutely winning.

Yeah, so if you don't know anything about Rilo Kiley, Nikka Costa, or The Bird and The Bee you really should because they're all amazingly sweet with a little fire to them. I'm admittedly a fan of sweet and sour! Happy Saturday!

Can't do what 10 people tell me to...

Yesterday was Beautiful! I was able to go out to the local lake and take pictures. Today it snowed a little! Yikes! BUT... I made a couple plans today for scratching a few goals off my list! The next month is going to be amazing! =] Life is good, but it takes some patience. I suggest listening to a little "Dock of the Bay" via Redding to go with the picture of my favorite fishing spot. I'm not going to post the lyrics because it is ludacris to not know 'em! Have a great weekend to those of you who are reading!

More photos to follow soon... mostly more artsy ones and ones of me knocking some goals off the ol' bucket list!

Can't resist...

...the urge to post some Rihanna and Eminem. Nothing against them... as far as "hip" music or whatever I love them both. Not my typical cup of tea but every word of the following has been bubbling on my tongue lately. I definitely don't condone domestic violence but I don't ignore the fact that it exists either. I just can't help but spew the venom along with "slim shady" in all of his power.  I only posted a portion of the song (the last verse with the ending chorus) but honestly, every word is a gem. Wouldn't change a thing. 10 points for an honest song.

Now I know we said things
Did things
That we didn't mean
And we fall back
Into the same patterns
Same routine
But your temper's just as bad
As mine is
You're the same as me
But when it comes to love
You're just as blinded

Baby please come back
It wasn't you
Baby it was me

Maybe our relationship
Isn't as crazy as it seems
Maybe that's what happens
When a tornado meets a volcano

All I know is
I love you too much
To walk away though
Come inside
Pick up your bags off the sidewalk

Don't you hear sincerity
In my voice when I talk

Told you this is my fault
Look me in the eyeball
Next time I'm pissed
I'll aim my fist
At the dry wall
Next time
There will be no next time

I apologize
Even though I know it's lies
I'm tired of the games

I just want her back
I know I'm a liar

If she ever tries to fucking leave again
I'mma tie her to the bed
And set the house on fire

Just gonna stand there
And watch me burn
But that's alright
Because I like
The way it hurts
Just gonna stand there
And hear me cry
But that's alright
Because I love
The way you lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie

Stupid Song Made Me Think of You

I heard this song on the radio today and I just really connect to it and appreciate the vulnerability of it. So while I was on updating my book list I decided to throw together a post. Sara Evans always sings with so much emotion. In my opinion the richness of her voice is something that is lacking when it comes to many of today's country music playlists.

Doesn't happen overnight but you turn around
And a month's gone by and you realize you haven't cried
I'm not giving you a hour or a second or another minute longer
I'm busy getting stronger

And I'm done hoping that we can work it out
I'm done with how it feels, spinning my wheels
Letting you drag my heart around
And, oh, I'm done thinking, that you could ever change

I know my heart will never be the same
But I'm telling myself I'll be okay
Even on my weakest days, I get a little bit stronger
I get a little bit stronger

Sara Evans: A Little Bit Stronger http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22zB6Soc2Gk

A good friend of mine has always been in love with Evans, and not just because she is good looking. He has a great point, she is down to earth and has such a sensible head on her shoulders. (Read an interview with her sometime and the genuineness of her will charm your pants off!) She packs an emotional punch that I just love. On the other hand, Sara also piped up this little jewel years ago which is much less emotional than the previous song but just as wonderful!

Don't you know that all the fairy tales tell a lie
Real love and real life doesn't have to be perfect

Baby every little piece of the puzzle
doesn't always fit perfectly
Love can be rough around the edges
Tattered at the seams
Honey, if it's good enough for you
It's good enough for me
Oh, you don't mind if I show up late for everything
When you lose your cool it's kinda cute to me
Hey, ain't it nice to know that we don't have to be

Perfect.

It's a Lovely Song

And when you sing this song it will make your whole body move...

All my life I've been singin' them sad songs
trying to get my message to you.
But you see, only song y'all, I can sing
and when I get through singing, my message will be to you

It goes

fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa
Your turn now

It's a lovely song y'all,
Sweet music honey,
It feels to life over,
It tells a story over,
You got to get your message
A stone message honey
A lovely line baby
I've been wanting a line..watch it

fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa
Your turn

I just love Otis Redding! And I love this song! This "Sad Song" certainly works as a sad, sad song, but... it can also get you off your bar stool and grooving on the dance floor. Maybe it is just me, but I love this song no matter my mood!

In other news, I've picked out two spots for my gardens. As a novice gardener I'm very nervous but also excited!! The weather is really becoming nice now so I'll be getting the soil ready this week and planting in the beginning of April. (That is the plan anyhow...) With the help of my amazing grandparents I'm hoping I can pull this off. With the reality of knowing what a busy summer I'll be having and how easily I seem to fail at things.... I'm expecting the worst! =]

As for the record sorting, slow and steady wins the race. I hope. I'm praying that I'll even have the weekend off from work at this point. There's a 50/50 shot, so we shall see.

Lots of finger crossing and prayers going on at this point!

Additionally, can't wait to get some photography hikes in here soon! =]

What Love Really Means

I just think this is a beautiful song that I want to be able to find it with ease anytime I want it!

He cries in the corner where nobody sees
He’s the kid with the story no one would believe
He prays every night “Dear God won’t you please...
Could you send someone here who will love me?”

Who will love me for me
Not for what I have done or what I will become
Who will love me for me
‘Cause nobody has shown me what love
What love really means
what love really means

Her office is shrinking a little each day
She’s the woman whose husband has run away
She’ll go to the gym after working today
Maybe if she was thinner then he would’ve stayed
And she says…

Who will love me for me?
Not for what I have done or what I will become
Who will love me for me?
‘Cause nobody has shown me what love
What love really means what love really means

He’s waiting to die as he sits all alone

He’s a man in a cell who regrets what he’s done
He utters a cry from the depths of his soul
“Oh Lord, forgive me. I want to go home”

Then he heard a voice somewhere deep inside
And it said “I know you’ve murdered
And I know you’ve lied
And I've watched you suffer all of your life
And now that you’ll listen I’ll, I'll tell you that I...”

I will love you for you
Not for what you have done or what you will become
I will love you for you
I will give you the love, the love that you never knew

I will love you for you
Not for what you have done or what you will become
I will love you for you

I will give you the love, the love that you never knew

The time is right...

to find a keeper! So far, I haven't found any records to liquidate. As always though, I've fallen in love again. My True Fine Love is definitely the Steve Miller Band!

I ain't complainin'
But I'd sure like to find me
A true, fine love
Someone another
That's as sweet as your mother
A true, fine love

Cause the time is right
For walking in the moonlight
I have suddenly found I'm ready to settle down

So come on get your rocks off
I'm gonna knock your socks off
You'll see, oh yeah!

Time to Listen Up!

With well over 3 milk crates of vinyl it is DEFINITELY time to downsize! I'm working on listening to each and every record I own... front to back! I'm a sucker for the crackle so even slightly "damaged" records are gold to me. Regardless, I've gotta get rid of at least 10% of my vinyl 'cause ...drumrollplease... April 16th is the 15th anniversary of the Dusty Groove and I plan to take a little trip to Chicago to celebrate with them! This uber amazing store is sure to have some new finds that I can't live without! (Plus a little party never hurt anyone!) That leaves me with a little less than a month to make some room!!
(I'm also doing my research on gardening... but I might just end up joining a CSA if funds provide. We shall see!!)

Off I go to spin some tunes!
